I LOVE MARIO GAMES, AND I USED TO PLAY FLASH GAMES IN BROWSER WHEN I WAS A LITTLE.
AT 13-14 YEARS OLD, I STARTED THINKING ABOUT PROGRAMMING AND WANTED TO BECOME A GAME DEVELOPER.
HERE I'LL TELL ABOUT EVERYTHING I WENT THROUGH. HOW I STARTED DRAWING SPRITES, HOW I MADE LEVELS & ROM-HACKS. HOW I STARTED MAKING GAMES. ETC.

IT ALL STARTED IN 2020. I WAS SEARCHING FOR SUPER MARIO MAKER ON YOUTUBE AND STUMBLED UPON A TRAILER OF A FANGAME CALLED SUPER MARIO UNIMAKER BY NINSTAR.
AT FIRST, I SKIPPED IT, THINKING IT WASN'T GOOD. BUT AFTER SOME TIME, I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY, AND WELL, I WAS WRONG. IT WAS A PRETTY COOL GAME.
AFTER PLAYING AROUND, I DISCOVERED THAT YOU CAN MAKE CUSTOM THEME FOR YOUR LEVEL... SO I GRABBED THE TILESET TEXTURE AND WENT TO WINDOWS PAINT (LMFAO)
I WAS 11, AND MY DUMB ASS DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PIXEL-ART, SPRITES, TEXTURES, ETC. ONLY AFTER SOME TIME, I THOUGHT THAT PAINT IS SHIT, SO I WENT TO INTERNET TO SEARCH FOR A BETTER SOFTWARE TO DRAW.
THERE I DOWNLOADED A FREE BETA OF PYXEL EDIT, AND CONTINUED THERE. THAT BECAME MY FIRST REAL SOFTWARE WHERE I DREW PIXEL-ART AND SPRITES UP UNTIL 2023. THEN I SWITCHED TO LIBRESPRITE.
I'M STILL USING IT TO THIS DAY, BUT I MIGHT SWITCH TO ASEPRITE IN THE FUTURE ONCE I BUY IT.
ROM-HACKING, MODDING & STUFF
2021 - 2022
I STARTED DOING ROM-HACKS IN 2021. I WAS MOSTLY DOING NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. DS, BECAUSE IT'S MY FAVORITE MARIO GAME, BUT I ALSO TRIED OTHERS, LIKE SUPER MARIO WORLD, SUPER MARIO LAND AND NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. WII
SMW AND SML DIDN'T REALLY WORKED OUT FOR ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T FELT THAT EXCITEMENT LIKE WITH NSMB, SO I DROPPED THEM.
I REMEMBER ONE HACK FOR NSMB WII THAT I DID. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A REMAKE OF NSMB DS WITH GHRAPHICS FROM NSMB U. I MANAGED TO RECREATE THE FIRST WORLD, BUT THEN I STOPPED WORKING.
I TRIED MAKING SOME MODS FOR SUPER MARIO MAKER. ALSO TRIED RECREATING NSMB DS IN NSMB U A LITTLE, BUT ALSO STOPPED LATER. AND I THINK AFTER THAT, I COMPLETELY STOPPED DOING ROM-HACKS AND MODS FOR MARIO GAMES.
SO YEAH, THEY ARE NEVER GONNA SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY. BUT I WILL SHARE SOME OLD SCREENSHOTS!

ALRIGHT, SO, IN 2022 and 2023, I TRIED MAKING GAMES... WITHOUT KNOWING HOW TO CODE (BRUH).
I USED GAMEMAKER AND HELLO MARIO ENGINE TO MAKE TWO GAMES - SUPER MARIO WORLD: NEW ADVENTURE (2022) AND SUPER MARIO BROS. REMAKE (2023)
I DON'T KNOW WHY I DIDN'T LEARN AT LEAST A LITTLE OF GML. I JUST STRAIGHT UP WENT TO MAKE A GAME WITHOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE. SO WHAT I DID? I JUST USED ALREADY PRE-MADE ASSETS AND RESOURCES FROM ENGINE AND TRIED TO MAKE SOMETHING. I WAS MOSTLY BUILDING LEVELS AND I THINK THAT'S IT.
I STILL HAVE A PLAYABLE DEMO OF THE FIRST GAME. IF I FEEL LIKE IT, I MIGHT UPLOAD IT ONLINE ONE DAY.

NOW WE'RE GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE I ACTUALLY STARTED MAKING GAMES WITHOUT USING A PRE-MADE FRAMEWORK LIKE I DID ABOVE.
I MESSED AROUND IN GODOT, MAKING STUFF THAT NEVER SAW THE LIGHT OF DAY, UNTIL AUGUST 2024, WHEN I DECIDED TO REMAKE AN ANCIENT FLASH GAME CALLED WORLD'S HARDEST GAME BY STEPHEN CRITOPH.
